According to the 2000 U.S. Census, 72% of the Lumpkin County residents have a high school diploma, including 17.6% have a bachelor's degree or higher. Although this may appear to be
satisfactory, what about the 28% who dropped out of school? Or, of that, the 11.2% who have even less than a 9th grade education? This situation is continuing today with 12.6% of the
residents ages 16-19 reporting they were neither attending high school nor had been graduated from high school in 2000.
