Here Are The Ways You Can Help – Open A Window...

Volunteer
Good works are only done through willing hands. Volunteers open windows to new skills, challenges and opportunities. Volunteers change lives! The Literacy Coalition in Lumpkin County is a community-based volunteer organization committed to literacy and lifelong learning. Each year we need tutors, classroom aides, office support, help to plan and execute special events, experience and skills on our committees and task forces, and to provide program oversight. Commitment is valuable for a few hours, a day, a month, a year or longer as you are available. As a volunteer in our Coalition you can expect:
  • To be trained for your assignment if necessary
  • To be valued
  • To be heard
  • To be part of a team
  • To be challenged and to be fulfilled

Refer Someone You Care About
If you know someone who could benefit from any of our services let us know about the need and we will provide information to you or to them directly that will let us reach out.Your caring action could be a window . . .
. . . of opportunity for someone who dropped out of school and can’t seem to keep a job or even get a job.
. . . to self-esteem for a parent who would like to help a child with homework but cannot, or is frustrated and embarrassed in every day situations that are not a problem for a person who can read.
. . . to empowerment for someone who would like to participate in community activities but is fearful of being classified as “stupid”.
. . . to change for a person who wants a better life for themselves or their family but does not know where to begin.
Donate
The Literacy Coalition is able to continue its good work because of the support of business owners and just folks who see the need and are able to help with a contribution. They are willing to invest now because they see the long range return in improved quality of life for all of us and our children. Donations can be for a specific program, or leave it undesignated and it will be applied where the need is greatest. $48 will provide the books for one year to an Imagination Library registrant. $95 will provide the funds needed to graduate from the GED Program for someone who could not otherwise afford it. $2500 will cover the costs of our Dictionary/Thesaurus Program. $500 will sponsor a team for our annual Spelling Bee. Any amount you can give will help us help someone to a better future!
